Good for Her (Bella, Benji)

The more she thought about it, the more confused she became. Briony Lewis was not one to admit her feelings so outwardly. It was often left up to whoever was around her to figure it out. But after so many years of friendship, she would’ve expected more from Isabella. She would’ve in the least wanted a heads up. Maybe it wasn’t something she needed to know, or maybe there wasn’t anything really to know about, but she doubted Benji would bring it up for no reason. There HAD to be a reason.

The cigarette burned between her fingers, drawing closer to a finish. Briony paced from one corner of the room to the other, struggling to tighten the belt around her waist with her free hand. She could still see his face twisting in the dim light of the tavern, messed up and seemingly vulnerable. Well, as vulnerable as she imagined he let himself be. The more she thought about the more she questioned saying anything to Isabella. What if it had all meant nothing? What if it was all just another game?

She put out what remained of the cigarette in a silver ashtray sitting on a small table by the window. Her phone ringed, announcing a new message. It was Kenny.

Bitch, where them boys at? Tell me you fucked the bartender.

She threw the phone on the bed rolling her eyes and started another cigarette. Her nerves from the wedding, the night before with Benji and Isabella’s imminent arrival collided, making her more anxious than she was the day before at the mercy of Abby and Portia.

A knock at the door forced her to collect herself. She glanced around the room to make sure everything was in its place. Realizing Isabella would most likely not give a shit, she took a deep drag of her Marlboro and reached for the door knob.
